SINGAPORE: A 15-year-old student in Singapore, who was allegedly kidnapped by a man in Malaysia, had crossed Singapore’s Woodlands Checkpoint on Sunday (Nov 24) before entering Johor.

Preliminary investigations by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) indicated that the girl had voluntarily left Singapore unaccompanied.

Her father, a 48-year-old Chinese national, made a missing persons report with the SPF at about 2.15pm on Nov 25 after his daughter failed to turn up at her school that same day.

The teen was later found in Kuantan, Pahang, following a raid on Nov 26. The girl’s father had alerted police in Johor earlier in the day, which lead to them tracking her down and raiding the location in Kuantan.

Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar told the media in Malaysia that a Chinese national was arrested during the raid for kidnapping and other offences.

A number of items were also seized, including mobile phones and clothes.

Commissioner Kumar said the 22-year-old suspect is being investigated for kidnapping, sexual assault of a child, and trafficking and abduction of children.

He added that the Malaysian authorities are investigating the motive. He urged the public not to speculate on the case but to contact the authorities if they have information.

Commissioner Kumar said the girl will be taken to a hospital for a medical check-up, and the suspect will remain in remand until Dec 2. - The Straits Times/ANN
