Intense rains expected in North Luzon areas due to shear line

MANILA: Moderate to intense rains are expected in six areas in Northern Luzon on Tuesday (Dec 3), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its latest rainfall outlook, Pagasa said the following areas may experience downpours from Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon due to the shear line:

Heavy to Intense (100 to 200mm)

Isabela

Moderate to Heavy (50 to 100mm)

Aurora

Cagayan

Apayao

Kalinga

Ilocos Norte

According to Pagasa, flooding is likely in areas under heavy to intense rainfall warning, especially in urbanized, low-lying, and near-river locations.

Localised flooding is also expected in areas where moderate to heavy rainfall warning is raised.

“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas maybe worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” the state weather bureau added.

It also advised the public to monitor weather updates and “take all necessary measures to protect life and property” to safeguard against the threats of heavy rains. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
