THE verdict is out. The Malaysian fans cannot just get enough of Tamil music superstar GV Prakash. Not surprising at all after that intense, chart-thumping and rocking solid show he and his team belted out at his first overseas concert at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday (Dec 7).
GV Prakash kept the 13,000 fans at the concert cheering, humming and always on their feet all night with some amazing performances by him, the singers and also stylish dance acts from his team
For over three hours, GV Prakash – the nephew of Oscar-winning music legend A.R. Rahman – belted out some of his greatest hits since debuting as a music director in 2006. Coincidentally, Rahman also held his first concert abroad in Malaysia in 1996.
But all eyes was on GV Prakash at the National Hockey Stadium. And he never disappointed any of his fans.
If he was simply superb, his team members - singers and musicians - they were just exhilarating. Simply put, fans were just cannot get enough of the whole team as the fans chanted for more even when the concert went past way 11.15 on Saturday night.
"This was an incredible experience," said a fan who was known as Sheela, who hails from Ipoh. "I mean wow, every one of the performers here tonight rocked man. If GV Prakash comes back every year, I will be there to see him perform. I'm sure he will make it more exciting every time he performs."
Another fan, Reshma Nithy, a technology student at a University in Cyber Jaya, said she was so happy to make the trip for the show.
"My friends and I just made a last minute decisions. We all had some extra funds and thought it would be great to catch GV Prakash in action. I mean we all love his songs in the movie 'Amaran' and watching him live here was just wonderful, " said Reshma.
"I will not forget some of the performances, It was simply incredible and unforgettable."
Many other fans took to social media instantly after the concert, flooding timelines with videos, photos, and glowing reviews of their experience. Many praised GV Prakash’s dynamic performance and the unforgettable atmosphere he created.
“An epic night for Tamil music fans in Malaysia!” one fan posted, while another called it “the best concert experience of 2024.”
Sreejit Kumar from Penang who is studying Melaka also made the trip for the concert.
"Me and my friends were going home for a break and also prepare for our coming exams. But we decided to take a break and check out the concert before returning home for that long preparation for our exams.
"And it was the best decision. Seriously, some of the performances was just excellent and memorable. It was fun before the big headache of preparing for the exams," said a smiling Sreejit.
His friend Kumar Ananthan also said it was an incredible show when interviewed.
"What a night, what a performance and I never danced so much in my life. I mean even the melodious songs had us rocking. It was just wonderful. Thanks GV Prakash and friends ... and my friends are hoping that he comes and give us all another concert here very soon.
"I can assure the organisers, me and my friends will be there," said Kumar.
Truly a night for many fans to remember the memorable concert and many are now hoping organisers DMY Creations to bring more world-class concerts for Malaysians.
For the record, GV Prakash first appeared as a singer for the song 'Chikku Bukku Rayile' in 'Gentleman' (1993), composed by Rahman. Since debuting as a music director in Veyil (2006), Prakash has composed music for over 50 films and launched his first international album, Cold Nights, in 2020.
In 2022, Prakash won his first National Award for the background score of 'Soorarai Pottru', directed by Sudha Kongara.
In 2015, Prakash debuted as an actor in the horror flick Darling and will make his Hollywood debut in 'Trap City', alongside comedian Yogi Babu.
Prakash’s concert in Malaysia last night was also his second live concert, following his maiden live performance in Coimbatore, India, last year, which drew over 75,000 people.
Known for his versatility, GV Prakash blends traditional Tamil music with contemporary sounds, creating hit tracks for films like 'Ratsasan' and 'Jai Bhim'. His unique dual career as both a composer and actor, also has impressed many in the entertainment circle.
This Deepavali, the composer is riding high on success again, with his music for ''Amaran'' and ''Lucky Baskhar'' lighting up both Tamil and Telugu box offices. And he is now the talk of the town in South India.
And after Saturday's showpiece in Bukit Jalil, he will be the talk of town among Tamil music fans not only in South India but also in Malaysia.
