Local Brunei man fined RM16,500 for possessing vape devices


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): A local man was fined BND5,000 (RM16,500) by the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Belait on Monday for possessing contraband vape devices. Failure to pay the fine will result in five months imprisonment.

Magistrate Abdul ‘Azim bin Othman handed down the sentence to 35-year-old Mohammad Hafiyuddin bin Haji Mohammad Hassanal Mega after he pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006.

The Customs prosecutor revealed that the defendant was apprehended on March 23, at 6.25pm by a customs inspection officer at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post’s vehicle entry section. A total of 11 vape units of various types were discovered during the inspection.

The court also ordered the confiscation of the seized vape devices, which will be handed over to the government for destruction. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
