YANGON (Eleven Media Hroup/ANN): United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) office in Myanmar has announced that it has appealed for US$1.1 billion to assist 5.5 million people struggling to survive amid crises in Myanmar in 2025.

According to UNOCHA Myanmar, there will be 19.9 million people in need of assistance in Myanmar in 2025.

As part of the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP), the organization proposed the US$1.1 billion funding to provide life-saving humanitarian aid to 5.5 million of the most vulnerable people facing severe challenges.

UNOCHA Myanmar stated that the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan prioritizes the most at-risk populations and is a strategic response plan aimed at addressing the growing humanitarian needs.

From early 2024 to the end of September, humanitarian organizations provided aid to nearly three million people in Myanmar.

However, due to extremely limited funding, they were unable to provide full assistance.

By the end of 2024, only 34% of the required funding for that year’s Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan had been secured, severely impacting the ability of humanitarian organizations to deliver emergency assistance, according to UNOCHA Myanmar’s statement in late November. - Eleven Media Group/ANN
