Brunei police seize contraband in suspicious vehicle; 75 cartons cigarettes and 10 cartons alcohol seized


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei police personnel seized a haul of contraband comprising 75 cartons of cigarettes and 10 cartons of alcohol in a suspicious vehicle, local media reported on Saturday.

According to the local daily Borneo Bulletin, the contraband was seized during a crime prevention operation by the local police station on Thursday.

Police officers found a suspicious vehicle while patrolling the bush area of a boat landing site in Temburong District in the eastern part of Brunei.

The officers checked the vehicle and discovered boxes containing contraband inside, according to the report.

The laws in Brunei impose strict regulations on cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.

In another event, some 22 underprivileged families in Brunei received donations recently, local media reported on Saturday.

According to the local daily Borneo Bulletin, the event was supported by the Brunei Youth Council, and household essentials were distributed among families in two villages in Brunei.

Brunei is a compact country in South-East Asia, with a population of 340,000 citizens and a strong social welfare system.
