Three dead, over 20 injured as bus plunges into ravine in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: (Bernama-Xinhua) Three people died and over 20 others were injured after a passenger bus plunged down a ravine in Mallawa, located on the Hatton-Kandy main road in Sri Lanka's Central Province on Saturday (Dec 21), according to the police, as reported by Xinhua.

The bus was carrying 25 passengers at the time of the incident, with all passengers sustaining injuries, local police said.

Police confirmed that three individuals succumbed to the injuries at the hospital, while the remaining passengers were receiving treatment at regional hospitals.

Motor vehicle accidents are a frequent occurrence in Sri Lanka, with official data indicating nearly 2,000 fatalities from road accidents between January 1 and October 25 this year. - Bernama-Xinhua
