KYOTO (Japan News/ANN): A woman in her 50s was stabbed with a knife by a man in a parking lot of a convenience store in Japan’s Kyoto prefecture, at around 11.40am on Dec 23.
Investigators said she was stabbed in the chest but conscious when taken to hospital, Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun reported.
The incident happened around 400m east of the JR Katsuragawa train station, police said.
The man in his 40s fled the scene by car but while being pursued by police officers on a highway road, got out of his car and jumped from a height of around 10m. He was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The woman, 53, had contacted the police in November about relationship troubles with the man, according to the police cited by broadcaster NHK.
The police are investigating the incident as attempted murder.
Violent crime is rare in Japan, but there are occasional stabbings and even shootings, including the assassination of former prime minister Shinzo Abe in 2022. -THE JAPAN NEWS/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
