President extends New Year greetings to Lao citizens, international friends


VIENTIANE: Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Thongloun Sisoulith (pic), offered his warmest wishes as the nation bids farewell to 2024 and welcomes the arrival of 2025 through a heartfelt address broadcast on television and other media platforms.

In his message, Thongloun expressed gratitude and optimism for the year ahead, addressing Lao citizens of all ages and backgrounds, both across the country and those living abroad.

He also offered New Year greetings to foreign friends in Laos, as well as to the leaders and citizens of friendly nations around the world.

Reflecting on the achievements of 2024, the president acknowledged the challenges facing the nation amid a turbulent international climate.

However, he praised the unity and resilience of the Lao people, which enabled significant progress in implementing the resolutions of the 11th Party Congress and the 9th five-year National Socio-Economic Development Plan.

Highlighting key accomplishments, he pointed to the country’s political stability, social peace, and gradual economic improvement.

These achievements were instrumental in building momentum for continued development, he noted.

President Thongloun also emphasised the success of Laos' Asean chairmanship throughout 2024, which he described as a source of pride for the nation and a testament to its growing international recognition.

As Laos prepares to begin 2025, an important year in the country’s socio-economic journey, he called on the nation to continue fostering patriotism and unity.

The president urged the Lao people to channel their collective energy and wisdom into achieving transformative growth, promoting economic independence, and strengthening national development.

In closing, Thongloun expressed gratitude to the Lao people for their contributions and to international friends for their support and cooperation.
