Police and Interior Ministry officials joined forces to raid a pub on Pattaya’s Walking Street and found 39 Chinese tourists who tested positive for drugs.
Panda Club was raided at 3.36am local time early last Sunday by over 100 police personnel and officials from the Provincial Administration Department in Bang Lamung district.
Chonburi deputy governor Chaiyaporn Paepiromrat ordered the raid to check for possible illegal activities, following a report that a Chinese tourist was severely injured at the pub on Dec 27, 2024.
When law enforcement officers entered the pub, they found some 300 Thai and foreign tourists drinking and dancing.
Most of the tourists were reportedly Chinese nationals.
The pub visitors were separated into two groups by gender when the officers checked their identification cards and had their urine tested.
The officers found that the 19 Chinese men and 20 Chinese women had tested positive for drug abuse.
However, no drugs were found in the pub.
The individuals were then taken to the Pattaya Police Station for legal action.
Bangkok Post reported that the pub manager was charged with staying open and selling alcoholic drinks after hours. — The Nation/ANN
