MANILA: China's position on hacking and cyberattacks was consistent and clear, a spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines said on Wednesday (Jan 9).

"We firmly oppose and crack down on hacking and cyberattacks in accordance with law, and at the same time we also oppose unjustified labeling, groundless accusations, or smears campaign for geopolitical purposes," the spokesperson said in a statement on so-called Chinese hacking activities against the Philippines.

The report linked the hacking to the South China Sea issue, and mentioned that the United States and others have provided technical support to the Philippines, the spokesperson said.

"Who is the mastermind behind this hype farce, and who is using cyber issues to stir up regional situation and seek geopolitical interests, and the answer is self-evident," the spokesperson said. - Xinhua
