VIENTIANE: Cold waves will lead to temperature drops across most parts of Laos from Wednesday (Jan 8) to Jan 15, with some areas expected to experience temperatures as low as 1 degree Celsius.

A cold air mass is spreading from China across the whole of Laos, causing temperatures to fall by 2 to 4 degrees, according to a notice issued on Tuesday (Jan 7) by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Mountainous and plateau areas will experience the lowest temperatures, which are forecast to range from 1 to 5 degrees Celsius.

The department has forecast minimum temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees Celsius in the northern part.

The central provinces will experience temperatures ranging from 6 to 10 degrees Celsius.

In the southern provinces, low temperatures will range from 13 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Everyone is advised to keep track of weather forecasts and be prepared for temperature extremes, especially in the north of the country. - Xinhua
