Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 at US$9.6bil

HANOI: Vietnam's main business hub, Ho Chi Minh City, received remittances worth about US$9.5 to $9.6 billion last year, the same level as the previous year, the city's authorities said.

Remittances are a key source of US dollars for Vietnam, along with exports and foreign investment. The Vietnamese dong's most recent depreciation against the dollar is broadly in line with other major currencies.

The remittances to the city are indicative of Vietnam's total inflows and can often amount to as much as 55-60% of all remittances to the country, according to a statement released on Thursday (Jan 9). - Reuters
