Ishiba in Jakarta - Indonesia invites Japan to join industrialisation efforts

JAKARTA (Bernama): Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has invited Japan to take part in the country’s industrialisation programmes, with an emphasis on downstream industries, during a meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Saturday.

The meeting at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java was followed by a bilateral session with ministers and senior officials from both nations, which a wide range of topics, including regional and global geopolitical issues, were discussed.

In a joint statement broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Prabowo highlighted Japan’s interest in supporting Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals programme, drawing on its 80 years of expertise in the field.

The recently launched programme aims to improve the nutrition of pregnant women, toddlers, schoolchildren and individuals at risk of stunting, in order to support the country’s future generations.

The two leaders also explored ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including the economy, infrastructure, energy resilience, industrial development, agriculture, human resources, and health.

Other potential areas for future collaboration included food security, maritime affairs, energy and fisheries.

"This visit underscores the strong commitment of both nations to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership,” Prabowo said, reaffirming their shared goal to explore new opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

Ishiba and his wife, Yoshiko Ishiba, arrived in Indonesia on Friday for a two-day official visit after their visit to Malaysia, marking his first bilateral visit since assuming the role of prime minister. - Bernama
