BEIJING (Reuters): China's embassy in Myanmar has urged Chinese nationals to be vigilant against telecom and online fraud after multiple reports of citizens being lured to Myanmar's border town of Myawaddy by online scams promoting "high-paying overseas jobs."
The embassy warned citizens against falling victim to scams that could endanger their safety and property.
The statement follows a high-profile case involving a Chinese actor who went missing last week after traveling to Thailand. The actor was later found in Myanmar and is believed to have been a victim of human trafficking.
In another move, Chinese citizens coming to Thailand were also told be vigilant not to fall into the trap of "high-paying recruitment", reminded the Chinese embassy in Thailand on Saturday, reported Xinhua.
Chinese citizens coming to Thailand should not easily believe in false promises such as "high-paying jobs" and "free air tickets and accommodation" to avoid being deceived, said the statement.
The embassy confirmed on Friday that the Chinese citizen surnamed Wang has departed from Thailand for China on Friday night following collaborative efforts from both countries.
The embassy expressed its gratitude to the Thai government for prioritising Wang's case, which was caused by cyber-fraud, and for promptly launching a rescue operation that ensured his safe return.
