FOR the first time, popular music label Sony Music Malaysia brings together two popular artists in a groundbreaking collaboration, the golden-voiced Vanessa Reynauld and dynamic local hip-hop star Rebel Asia.
Their joint single, “To The Finish Line” is the official soundtrack (OST) for the much-anticipated film, “Soloz Game of Life”, set to premiere this coming January 23, 2025.
Directed by celebrated Malaysian director Syafiq Yusof, “Soloz Game of Life” delves into the competitive world of e-sports, particularly Mobile Legends.
This emotionally gripping and adrenaline-filled film explores the themes of perseverance, teamwork and determination. Mirroring these themes, “To The Finish Line” delivers a message of resilience and hope, encapsulating the essence of the movie’s narrative.
Artistic Inspiration & Message Behind The Song
Vanessa Reynauld shared that the song draws its inspiration from the film.
“The idea for the song originates directly from ‘Soloz Game of Life’. It serves as the closing theme, and that’s why it’s called ‘To The Finish Line.’ It ties the story together and completes the movie’s journey,” she explained.
Rebel Asia added that the song’s digital and electronic vibe aligns with the gaming world portrayed in the movie. “We aimed to create something futuristic and digital to complement the video game concept,” he said.
The track emphasizes the importance of resilience and chasing one’s dreams. “The message is simple, never stop striving for your goals. You are the one who will define where your ‘finish line’ lies,” Rebel Asia added.
Vanessa emphasized that the upbeat rhythm of the track reflects the vibrant energy of the gaming universe. “This song’s upbeat melody perfectly represents the dynamic atmosphere of the movie,” she said.
Creative Collaboration & Pushing Boundaries
For both artists, the song presented an opportunity to explore new creative directions. Vanessa described the experience as both challenging and exhilarating.
“This is my first time performing a track in this genre, blending EDM-pop with AI-inspired vocal techniques.
"Collaborating with a DJ also brought a fresh perspective. It’s unlike anything I’ve done before, and I thoroughly enjoyed the process,” she said.
Rebel Asia echoed similar sentiments about stepping into unfamiliar musical territory.
“This track leans more toward EDM-pop than hip-hop, which is a genre I haven’t ventured into often. That made the project exciting and refreshing for me,” he said.
Vanessa expressed that working with Rebel Asia was a perfect choice.
“I really love Rebel Asia’s rap style, so I didn’t hesitate to reach out to him for a collaboration. I’m so happy we got to work together,” she said enthusiastically.
