Singapore, South Korea mark 50 years of relations with new logo

SINGAPORE: South Korea and Singapore unveiled a logo to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties on Monday (Jan 13).

The logo was the winning design in a competition between Korea National University of Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, said South Korea’s embassy in Singapore.

The submissions were reviewed by design experts and officials from both countries’ ministries of foreign affairs and culture, as well as embassy representatives.

The winning design by a Korea National University of Arts student incorporated symbolic elements and colours inspired by the national flags of South Korea and Singapore.

It also features the number 50 to represent the long years of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

South Korea and Singapore have diplomatic ties dating back to 1975, with plans to work towards upgrading the relationship to a strategic partnership in 2025.

South Korean ambassador Hong Jin-wook said: “The vibrant and dynamic design beautifully reflects the spirit of innovation and friendship shared by our two countries... We will do our best to honour the achievements of the past 50 years and pave the way for the next 50 years of partnership.”

The embassy said they are also planning a Korean film screening and a performance of Jongmyo Jeryeak, which is the royal ancestral ritual in Jongmyo Shrine, a Unesco World Heritage Site in Seoul. - The Straits Times/ANN
