SINGAPORE: The Law Society of Brunei Darussalam has formalised its partnership with the Law Society of Singapore through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), solidifying a commitment to deeper collaboration and knowledge sharing between the two legal fraternities.

The MoU was signed on January 13 during the Presidents’ Roundtable, a key feature of Singapore’s Opening of the Legal Year ceremony. Representing their respective societies was President of the Law Society of Brunei Darussalam Haji Mohammad Zainidi Haji Abdul Hamid, and President of the Law Society of Singapore Lisa Sam

The roundtable brought together over 40 bar leaders and international delegates, addressing critical topics such as the impact of artificial intelligence on legal practice, intellectual property, court decisions, and global compliance challenges related to anti-money laundering. The discussions provided meaningful exchanges and practical insights, underscoring the importance of regional and international cooperation in addressing contemporary legal challenges.

The MoU reflects the longstanding friendship between Brunei and Singapore’s legal communities and paves the way for opportunities in professional development, joint initiatives and information exchange.

The Brunei Law Society’s involvement in Singapore’s legal event follows its participation in Malaysia’s Opening of the Legal Year ceremony held on January 8 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. This further highlights Brunei’s dedication to fostering strong regional ties.

On January 7, the Malaysian Bar also hosted a Bar Leaders’ Roundtable Discussion titled “Building a Just Economy: Harmonising Legal Expertise, Human Rights, and Rule of Law for Global Prosperity” at DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside. The event featured a networking lunch and robust discussions on enhancing regional legal cooperation. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
