JAKARTA (Bernama-Antara): Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid to discuss a strategy to protect children in digital spaces, reported Antara news agency.
On Monday, Hafid visited the president at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, to report on various digital transformation programmes run by her side, including the digitalisation of government systems (e-government).
"We also discussed efforts to protect our children in the digital realm. We will see it later," she remarked after meeting the president.
Hafid then highlighted the possibility of drafting government regulations while reviewing stronger regulations to protect children in the digital space.
"We will study it first, but in principle, while bridging more stable regulations, we will issue government regulations first," she remarked.
In addition, she stated that the government would also involve the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to jointly determine the formulation of regulations.
"We issue the regulations while discussing with the DPR regarding the law that we can issue to protect our children," she noted.
"The president mandated us to continue and study this issue to be implemented later. He totally supports the child protection practice in the digital realm," she remarked.
Regarding the digitalisation programmes of the government system, Hafid explained that the digitalisation of public services is one of the president's directives to increase transparency and efficiency in service delivery to the public.
The minister stated that digitalisation is one of the important pillars in bureaucratic reform and modernisation of public services.
Hafid remarked that one of the programmes carried out by her office is supporting the acceleration of digital transformation in government agencies.
"The president is very concerned about the digitalisation issue," she emphasised.
The meeting between Prabowo and Hafid lasted for over an hour and was also attended by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. - Bernama-Antara
