SYDNEY: (Bernama-Xinhua) A man has been airlifted to hospital after being attacked by a shark off Australia's northeast coast, reported Xinhua.

The ambulance service in the state of Queensland said that emergency services were called to reports of a shark attack at a beach on Moreton Island, a popular tourist destination about 40 kilometres off the coast of Brisbane, shortly after 3pm local time on Saturday (Feb 22).

A 29-year-old man was treated at the scene for abdominal injuries and lacerations to his leg before being flown to a Brisbane hospital in a stable condition, the Queensland Ambulance Service said.

David James, director of a holiday resort on the island, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that he was thankful to hear the man was in a stable condition.
