SINGAPORE: (Bernama) Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) expects continuous heavy traffic at the Woodlands and Tuas land checkpoints this weekend, and has advised travellers to defer non-essential travel if possible.

ICA, in an advisory posted on Facebook, said that both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints have been experiencing very heavy arrival and departure traffic since the start of the March school holidays.

The incessant rain over the last two days due to the monsoon surge has also contributed to the traffic build-up at the land checkpoints, it said.

"Departing car travellers and motorcyclists have had to wait over two hours for immigration clearance,” the agency said.

ICA said those who wish to continue with their journey should expect delays and are advised to check the traffic conditions before embarking on their trip.

ICA also cautioned motorists to avoid queue-cutting, as there have been reports of road accidents over the last two days due to reduced visibility on rainy days.

Many areas of Singapore experienced heavy rainfall during the monsoon surge on March 19 and 20, with several locations reporting flash floods.
