PHNOM PENH: Cambodia's famous Angkor Archaeological Park welcomed 5,751 Chinese visitors in July, representing a 0.54-per cent increase compared to July last year and propelling China to the top spot for international tourist arrivals to the park for that month, according to an official report released Saturday (Aug 8).
Located in north-western Siem Reap province, the 401-square-kilometre Angkor Archaeological Park is the country's premier tourist destination, featuring 91 ancient temples built between the ninth and 13th centuries.
The park attracted 39,742 Chinese tourists during the first seven months of 2026, down 25.4 per cent year on year.
Cambodian Minister of Tourism Huot Hak said on Tuesday that the overall decline in international tourist arrivals stems from regional and global headwinds.
He attributed the drop to negative publicity, online scam issues and friction along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
Additionally, Hak noted that geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East have driven up fuel prices and dampened global travel enthusiasm. - Xinhua
