Leptospirosis cases rise in Philippine capital amid floods

MANILA: (Bernama-Xinhua) Leptospirosis cases at a major infectious disease hospital in the Philippine capital have reached 50, with two deaths, following widespread flooding caused by persistent heavy rains, according to local media on Saturday (Aug 22), reported Xinhua.

San Lazaro Hospital, a national referral centre for infectious diseases run by the Department of Health (DOH), has opened an express lane for leptospirosis patients, according to local media TV5.

Nationwide, the number of cases in the Philippines has reached 3,760 so far, with the figure expected to rise further in the coming days, according to the DOH. - Bernama-Xinhua
