Tekun Nasional aims to create over 50,000 entrepreneurs this year


SUBANG: Tekun Nasional, an agency under the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry, aims to create over 50,000 entrepreneurs this year involving the offer of RM600mil in loans.

Managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Baharom Embi said of the total, RM300mil was from the Government and RM300mil from Tekun Nasional.

“From its establishment in 1998 up to December 2015, Tekun Nasional has distributed microcredit loans of RM3.8bil to 337,090 small entrepreneurs nationwide,” he told reporters after officiating the Mentor-Mentee Seafood Programme in partnership with seafood supplier, Bumi Services Sdn Bhd. 

Also present was Bumi Services managing director, Muhamad Azman Poniran.

Baharom said the programme aimed to provide business opportunities to entrepreneurs based on the stipulated conditions and financing procedures. 

“Under the programme, Bumi Services would act as mentor and entrepreneurs as mentees and the loan package will be chanalled to the mentor under the agreed upon terms.

“Like other seafood mentor-mentee programmes, nine entrepreneurs will receive Tekun Nasional financing of RM72,000 each, which includes business equipment and uniform,” he said. - Bernama
