Petron sees huge potential in lubricant business

KUALA LUMPUR: Petron Corporation sees huge potential for the lubricant business in Malaysia.

The company is the Philippines' largest oil refining and marketing company.

Head of commercial business Choong Kum Choy said Petron's lubricant business got off to a great start by churning out a profit in the first year of operation in Malaysia in 2012.

"In fact, our lubricant business expanded by eight per cent in the first nine months of last year compared to the same period of 2014," he told Bernama during his recent visit to the national news agency's headquarters here.

Acknowledging the importance of brand familiarity and acceptance, he said Petron had a competitive edge in having a large chain of service stations to provide visibility and confidence.

"Brand familiarity and acceptance is fundamental to how successful one can be in this market," he added.

Choong said to further gain market acceptance, the company is offering the support of a highly competent technical services group, that is available to provide expert advice and support for most applications.

He also said despite being a new player in the Malaysian lubricant market, Petron had vast experience in the business by being a major supplier in the Philippines and was also present in other countries globally.

"We have gone through the rigours of product development over more than 80 years to ensure our premium lubricants meet the exacting standards of major original equipment manufacturers," he said.

Choong said the company offered a wide range of lubricant brands, from petrol and diesel engine oils to a variety of industrial oils, greases and specialty products.

For petrol engines, he said Petron offered the "Blaze Racing" series of engine oils, ranging from the fully synthetic, semi-synthetic to mineral grades.

"The Blaze Racing engine oils are specially formulated with TS3 (Thermal Stress Stabilising System), an exclusive technology to keep the oil stable at extreme temperatures and engine stress.

"For diesel engines, we have the 'Rev-X' series which range from the high-end fully synthetic to premium grades and formulated with DC Tech (Dynamic Cleaning Technology)," he added.

Choong said the technology provided powerful engine cleaning action and protection and exceeded the latest heavy duty engine oil quality level of major engine builders. - Bernama
