IHH Healthcare to set up 350-bed hospital in Chengdu

IHH managing director & CEO Dr Tan See Leng:

KUALA LUMPUR: IHH Healthcare Bhd will set up a 350-bed hospital in Chengdu, China after leasing a space in Perennial International Health and Medical Hub there.

IHH had on Friday held an official signing ceremony with Perennial in Chengdu for the leasing of the space to set up the multi-disciplinary hospital, which will be Chengdu’s first foreign tertiary hospital and IHH’s first hospital in Western China.

The hospital, which will be operated by its largest operating subsidiary Parkway Pantai, is scheduled to open in the second half of 2017.

IHH said ParkwayHealth Chengdu Hospital would provide specialised care and clinical services including obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, cardiology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and internal medicine.

IHH managing director & CEO Dr Tan See Leng said: “The development of a new tertiary hospital in Western China is a significant milestone for us, and leverages our decade of experience in operating medical centres in China.

Dr Tan, who is also group CEO and MD of Parkway Pantai said the group would bring its global track record of providing excellent medical care to Chengdu, with its strong infrastructure and rapidly growing demand for quality healthcare.

“Along with Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital, ParkwayHealth Chengdu Hospital will further our plans of becoming a leading international healthcare provider in Greater China.”

Upon completion, ParkwayHealth Chengdu Hospital will serve a total population catchment of 148 million residents in the region, and reinforce IHH’s commitment to expanding into Greater China.

The agreement was signed in the presence of the mayor of Chengdu’s Chenghua district Liu Guang Qiang, consul-general of the Singapore Consulate-General in Chengdu, Gan Teng Kiat and vice consul of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Kunming, Nazri Abdul Rahman.

Recall that in October 2015, IHH announced it would lease at least 48,000 square metres in net leasable area from Perennial to operate the hospital, once its indirect wholly owned subsidiary, M & P Investments Pte Ltd, and local Chinese partner, Shanghai Broad Ocean Investments Co. Ltd, obtain the necessary government and regulatory approvals to form a joint venture company.
