Bumi Armada unit files RM1b claim against Woodside Energy

KUALA LUMPUR: Bumi Armada Bhd's unit has filed a claim in the Australian court against Woodside Energy Julimar Pty Ltd over the latter's cancellation of a contract and is seeking US$283.51mil (RM1.098bil).

Its unit, Armada Balnaves Pte Ltd (ABPL) had on Wednesday served a statement of claim in the  Supreme Court of Western Australia against Woodside over the termination of the contract for the charter of  the Armada Claire floating production storage and offloading unit.

In the writ of summons filed by ABPL on March 14, it had sought from Woodside, among others, an unquantified amount of damages for Woodside’s repudiation of the contract when it terminated it on March 4.

ABPL is seeking damages of US$275.81mil – the amount of the termination payment it was entitled to had the contract not been terminated – and also US$7.70mil for work done and materials supplied.

“Bumi Armada is of the view that there are reasonable grounds to expect a favourable outcome in respect of ABPL’s primary claim against Woodside on the repudiation of the contract.

“Notwithstanding the foregoing, the award of damages in the event of a favourable outcome is subject to final determination by the court,” it said.
