KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) declared an income distribution of 6.0 sen per unit for Amanah Saham Malaysia (ASM) and 6.5 sen per unit for Amanah Saham Bumiputera 2 (ASB 2) for the financial year ending March 31, 2017 (FY17).
The income distribution for ASM and ASB 2 involved a total payout of RM1 billion and RM384.7 million, respectively, PNB Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said in a media briefing on 'PNB 2016 Review and 2017 Update' here, today.
"The ASM income distribution will benefit more than 500,000 unitholders who currently hold 17.3 billion units, while the ASB 2 distribution will benefit more than 200,000 unitholders currently holding some 7.4 billion units," he said.
Until Feb 28, 2017, Abdul Wahid said ASM had recorded a gross income of RM1.2 billion, with profit from sale of shares contributing RM622.2 million or 52.4 per cent to gross income.
"Dividend income from investment in companies contributed RM404.2 million or 34 per cent, while the remaining income of RM160.9 million or 13.6 per cent was derived from investments in short-term instruments and other income," he added.
Meanwhile, he said ASB 2 recorded a gross income of RM349.8 million as at Feb 28, 2017, with profit from sale of shares accounting for RM158.8 million or 45.4 per cent of gross income.
Dividend income from investments in companies contributed RM133.2 million or 38.2 per cent while RM57.8 million or 16.5 per cent was derived from investments in short-term instruments and other income, he added.
He said the distribution declared by ASM and ASB 2 would be reinvested as additional units into the accounts of unitholders at RM1 a unit and would be automatically credited into the unitholders' accounts on April 1, 2017.
For FY16, PNB declared income distributions of 6.3 sen per unit and 7.05 sen per unit for ASM and ASB 2, respectively.
As for income for Amanah Saham Gemilang (ASG), which consists of three funds namely ASG-Pendidikan, ASG-Kesihatan and ASG-Persaraan, Abdul Wahid said that PNB had allotted a total of RM138 million, which would benefit more than 140,000 unitholders who held 3.1 billion units.
For FY17, ASG-Pendidikan, ASG-Kesihatan and ASG-Persaraan announced income distributions of 4.5 sen, 4.25 sen and 5.15 sen per unit, respectively, compared with 6.0 sen, 7.0 sen and 6.8 sen, respectively, in FY16. - Bernama
