KUALA LUMPUR: HSS Engineers Bhd’s (HEB) 30%-owned associate HSS Integrated Sdn Bhd (HSSI) has clinched a RM16.5mil contract to provide preliminary design consultancy services for the first 220km of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the engineering design and project management services firm said a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Co (M) Sdn Bhd group appointed HSSI as a design consultant via a letter of appointment dated July 27.
HEB, which will celebrate the first anniversary of its public listing on the Ace Market tomorrow (Thursday), said it expected to complete the job in the final quarter of 2017.
“Pursuant to the exclusive teaming arrangement between HSSI and HEB’s wholly-owned subsidiary, HSS Engineering Sdn Bhd (HSSE), HSSI and HSSE will be collaborating exclusively to execute and complete the contract,” it said.
HSSI’s other shareholders are HEB’s executive directors, namely Datuk Khairudin Sidek (60% stake), Datuk Seri Kunasingam V. Sittampalam (5%) and Datuk Nitchiananthan Balasubramaniam (5%).
The ECRL is a 688km electric railway system that will link the east coast states to the Greater Klang Valley. Its ground-breaking ceremony was held today (Wednesday) in Kota Sultan Ahmad Shah in Pahang.
HEB previously participated in design projects related to the Mass Rapid Transit and Light Rail Transit lines in the Klang Valley. Infrastructure projects comprising railway and transit systems accounted for 63% of HEB group’s revenue in the financial year ended Dec 31, 2016.
