Seacera to build Rubber Research Institute’s facility for RM216mil

Rubber Research Institute Malaysia (RRIM) Sungai Buloh

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Rubber Board’s (MRB) plan to build a new headquarters and other key facilities at Sungai Buloh, announced four years ago, seems to be taking off.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Seacera Group Bhd said it had received a RM216mil sub-contract from Koridor Padu Sdn Bhd to undertake the construction of Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia’s (RRIM) Centre of Excellence in Sungai Buloh, Selangor.

The tile maker, which also has construction and property divisions, said this project was expected to be completed in 24 months (October 2019).

Earlier this month, Mudajaya Group Bhd clinched a RM118.6mil contract to build the 16-storey Hevea Tower in Sungai Buloh, which is expected to be the MRB corporate headquarters. That project is targeted for completion by September 2019.

To recap, MRB had signed an agreement with project delivery partner KLIA Premier Holding’s units in December 2013 to develop its headquarters as well as a research and development centre, a college, a rubber discovery museum centre and a business cluster on its 216.5ha land in Sungai Buloh.

The project, then scheduled to be completed by Aug 30, 2018, was reported to cost RM1.1bil.
