MRCB to issue statement on EDL toll abolition another day

The Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) which is an elevated highway linking from the North South Expressway to the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) complex.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd, the concessionaire of the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) expressway in Johor, said it will make an announcement later on the Budget 2018 proposal to abolish toll collection at EDL from Jan 1, 2018.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Friday, it said it “will make the necessary announcement upon receipt of further details from the Government.”

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, during the tabling of Budget 2018 earlier in the day, announced the abolishment of toll collection at the 8.1km EDL as well as the tolls at Batu Tiga, Shah Alam; Sungai Rasau, Selangor; and Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah.

Normally, toll concessionaires would be compensated by the Government when their toll collection was scrapped.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani was reported as saying on Friday the Government might extend the concession tenure instead of offering a cash compensation.
