KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines has teamed up with Etiqa Group and Cover-More to launch MHinsure travel Takaful – offering travellers the same benefits of traditional travel insurance products with two additional benefits for Badal Hajj and Ihsarr, which cater for the Islamic pilgrimage.
According to a joint statement issued on Monday, this is the first Takaful travel protection product in Malaysia to be offered by an airline.
The airline's customers will be able to purchase their Takaful protection when they buy their ticket.
The Takaful protection plan is underwritten by Etiqa, the No. 1 general insurance and Takaful company in Malaysia. The assistance services are provided by Cover-More, a specialist integrated insurance and medical assistance provider.
Malaysia Airlines’ group CEO Izham Ismail, said there was a high demand for Takaful protection products from international travellers.
“We are excited to launch a comprehensive product that complies with Shariah law and at the same time offers our Muslim and non-Muslim customers comprehensive Takaful travel protection with outstanding assistance services,” he said.
Etiqa Group CEO Kamaludin Ahmad described the partnership with Malaysia Airlines which began in 2008, has elevated the business to a new level.
Kamaludin said the partnership would enable Etiqa to further expand its global brand presence by leveraging on certain destinations served by Malaysia Airlines or its codeshare partners as well as Cover-More’s global network.
Cover-More global director of aviation Mark Fuller said the launch of MHinsure Takaful, together with our valued partners Malaysia Airlines Berhad and Etiqa, is the latest advance in their longstanding relationship.
It was in 2012 that they launched travel insurance for Malaysia Airlines.
Fuller said now they provide its global medical assistance services to travellers who want the protection of a comprehensive Takaful product.
