Bank Negara expected to keep benchmark rate at 3.25%

Despite a long presence in Malaysia, the contribution of foreign insurers to the overall development of the domestic insurance industry has not been at the level expected.

PETALING JAYA: Bank Negara may retain the benchmark overnight policy rate (OPR) at the current level of 3.25% in the upcoming monetary policy meeting on May 10.

According to AmBank Research chief economist Anthony Dass, the current fairly weak factory-gate and consumer inflation may cause the central bank to maintain the OPR.
