OldTown controversy turns murkier

The coffee chain operator, which was delisted from Bursa Malaysia in April 2018, also denied that the closure of its licensed OldTown cafes in China was related to a trademark dispute.“This remains a contractual matter only, “ it said in a statement.

PETALING JAYA: The controversy surrounding OldTown Bhd has turned murkier, with one of its franchisees in China calling out the homegrown coffeemaker to take responsibility for its losses.

The franchisee, Jiangsu G&L Food & Beverage Management Co Ltd (G&L), has also insisted that OldTown’s indirect wholly-owned Shenzhen Kopitiam Asia Pacific Ltd – the franchisor – be investigated for contract fraud.
