Tax holiday extension may drive car sales further


Kenanga Research said the new volume-driven launches in the final quarter of this year, such as the Proton X50, City and Almera, could offset the cautious consumer sentiment affected by both the recently implemented conditional movement control order, as well as the end of the loan moratorium last month.

PETALING JAYA: An extension of the sales tax exemption on new vehicles will help boost demand for cars next year, as the rise of Covid-19 infections could hamper car sales in the near-to-medium term.

MIDF Research, in a report yesterday, said that extending the tax holiday, which is scheduled to end on Dec 31, will spur car sales.
