Astro earnings jump in Q3 on lower merchandise costs

Chairman Tun Zaki Azmi said the group saw improved performance for the third quarter amid the gradual reopening of the economy and relaxation of the movement control order (MCO).

PETALING JAYA: Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd posted a 23% quarter-on-quarter jump in net profit to RM165mil for the third quarter ended Oct 31,2020, mainly due to lower merchandise costs and licence, copyright and royalty fees, and lower net finance costs, offset by higher tax expenses.

Revenue for the quarter under review was 1.5% higher to RM1.1bil compared to the preceding quarter, mainly due to improved advertising revenue and sales of programme rights, which was offset by a drop in merchandise sales and subscription revenue.
