Capital A's load factor rises to 86% in 3Q2022

KUALA LUMPUR: Capital A Bhd’s consolidated airlines continue to recover strongly with another quarterly record, with load factors rising to 86 per cent in the third quarter of the financial year 2022 (Q3 2022).

The airline operator said its consolidated airlines, comprising AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia Indonesia, AirAsia Philippines and AirAsia Thailand, carried over 7.1 million passengers, a 1,925 per cent increase year-on-year (y-o-y) and a 28 per cent increase quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q).

In a statement today, Capital A said for Q3 2022, the airlines operated a total of 68 aircraft, restoring 48 aircraft to service compared to a year ago.

"Capital A’s consolidated airlines flew close to 45,000 flights in the quarter, up 1,460 per cent y-o-y from less than 3,000 flights flown in the same period last year and with more than 9,000 flights compared to the preceding quarter, supported by the upsurge in domestic and international travel demand in our key markets.

"Seats sold for domestic and international flights increased by 10 per cent and 107 per cent q-o-q, respectively, signalling a strong rebound for international flight services,” it said.

Capital A said available seat kilometres (ASK) rose by 1,760 per cent y-o-y, while revenue passenger kilometres increased by 2,408 per cent y-o-y.

It said the group’s four airlines carried 9.9 million passengers during Q3 2022, 2,189 per cent higher y-o-y, utilising 103 aircraft, resulting in an ASK of 11,417 million, recovering 44 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.

For its digital businesses, Capital A said the airasia Super App achieved 9.5 million average monthly active users in the July-September 2022 period, up 161 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Capital A said the number of transactions increased substantially by 1,953 per cent for y-o-y comparison and 139 per cent q-o-q.

"The improved performance is mainly attributed to our travel vertical where bookings on our online travel agent (OTA) platform alongside AirAsia flights as well as our hotel booking platform have increased in line with the huge resurgence in travel demand, and the rollout of numerous sales campaigns,” it said.

Capital A said concerning airasia Ride, the number of completed rides achieved more than 550,000 rides in the quarter, while BigPay’s card users rose to 1.26 million in the third quarter, recording a 48 per cent y-o-y and 4.0 per cent q-o-q increase.

"The group’s logistics business, Teleport, transported 26,667 tonnes in the July-September period, up 21 per cent q-o-q mainly due to an increase in international belly capacity to capture more market share,” it added. - Bernama
