GEORGE TOWN: Automated test equipment manufacturer Aemulus Holdings Bhd has about RM60mil orders to ship out over the next eight to 12 quarters.

Group chief executive officer Ng Sang Beng told StarBiz that the testers were for checking CMOS imaging sensors and smart LEDs used in automotive cameras and ambient lighting.

“We are supplying to one of the top-three CMOS imaging sensor manufacturers globally.

“Fortune Business Insights reports that the global automotive camera market size, valued at about US$3.8bil (RM17.9bil) in 2019, will increase to US$10.1bil (RM47.8bil) by 2026, growing at about a 21.5% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR).

“The growth of automotive cameras is spurred by the need to enhance the drivers’ field vision to spot different obstacles.

“Automotive cameras are integrated with advanced driver assistance systems to detect blind spots in vehicles.

“Because of the high number of road accidents each year, governments across the globe have made it mandatory to instal cameras in vehicles, driving the market demand,” he said.

According to Ng, Europe is expected to dominate the automotive camera market due to new stringent safety norms for automobile manufacturers imposed by the European Union.

“Asia Pacific holds the second-largest market. The demand from Europe and North America for cost-effective Asian-made components ensures that the Asia Pacific holds on to its prominent position in the global market.

“The North America market is expected to be a key market also, as the US Transportation Department has made it mandatory to instal rearview cameras in vehicles weighing less than 10,000 lbs,” he said.

Ng said the automotive ambient lighting market is projected to reach US$6.2bil (RM29.3bil) by 2027 from US$3.8bil (RM17.9bil) in 2022, growing at a 10.6% CAGR from 2022 to 2027.

“The growth of this market can be attributed to the increasing demand for premium and luxury vehicles, increasing utilisation of mood lighting, and the rising popularity of multicolour ambient lighting in luxury vehicles.

“Therefore, the automotive ambient lighting market is expected to witness significant growth in the coming years,” he said.

According to Ng, the group will invest about RM10mil for a research and development facility to make testers for wafers.

“These are wafers that go into the production of imaging sensors and microcontroller computing chips,” he said. “The research facility is being constructed now and should be operational in 15 months,” he added.

Aemulus designs and markets semiconductor testers, focusing primarily on radio frequency, mixed-signal semiconductor test markets, automotive and lighting markets.

The group conducts research on new test methodologies, algorithms, test instrumentation designs and test software; as well as research on how data science can help testers in predictive analysis and maintenance.

Its test solutions propel customers towards optimum productivity and operational efficiency.
