TM expects to maintain business momentum

Group CEO Imri Mokhtar says TM will continue to invest in technology capabilities, new growth areas of fixed-mobile convergence and digital solutions, and in building capacity and digital talents.

PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) expects to maintain its growth momentum through its unifi, TM One and TM Wholesale (TMW) business segments.

For the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2022 (3Q22), the telecommunications company’s revenue increased by 12.7% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM3.2bil on continuous growth across all customer segments.

Net profit, however, saw a decline of 2.2% to RM265mil due to higher taxation pay out and foreign exchange translation loss on borrowings.

Basic earnings per share was down to 7.01 sen from 7.19 sen previously.

Having recently signed a share subscription agreement and an access agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd for the single wholesale 5G network in Malaysia, TM is optimistic that this will boost its fixed-mobile convergence offerings and ensure its profitability.

In a statement yesterday, the group said its Unifi segment now has three million fixed-broadband subscribers, driven by aggressive sales, promotions and loyalty programmes for customers.

“With 5G now made available, unifi will leverage this equal playing field to strengthen its position as the preferred provider for fixed-mobile converged solutions, providing the widest and fastest all-in-one solution to meet today’s digital lifestyle,” TM said.

Moreover, TM One sustained growth on the back of enterprise and government sector segments that are supported by connectivity services and customer projects.

During the quarter, this division posted an 11.9% increase in revenue to RM891.9mil.

TMW also registered a surge in revenue by 26% to RM769.9mil in 3Q22.

The group attributed the results to higher domestic data and international digital demands from hyperscalers and global carriers within the region.

“More than 5,400 cumulative 4G and 5G fibre-backhaul sites were deployed to expand network coverage and accelerate digital implementation nationwide.

“TMW continues to support the industry’s demand for high-speed broadband access, delivering more than 670,000 ports for five local broadband providers,” TM said.

TMW also secured a North Asia digital provider and a US-based hyperscaler as its latest wholesale data centre customers in Iskandar Puteri Data Centre.

TM noted that this development has strengthened the group’s position as the nation’s preferred network infrastructure provider.

Group chief executive officer Imri Mokhtar said TM will continue to invest in technology capabilities, new growth areas of fixed-mobile convergence and digital solutions, and in building capacity and digital talents.

“We are strengthening our mobile business with the right strategy and capabilities.

“Unifi introduced exciting bundled packages for consumers and micro small and medium-sized enterprises, while TM One brings together leading technology and smart solution partners to accelerate innovative use cases.

“TMW continues to deliver on its aspiration to position Malaysia as the digital hub for Asean via submarine cables and data centre offerings,” he said.

The counter closed at RM5.45 yesterday.
