Maxis sees growth across all business segments

Maxis chief executive Goh Seow Eng said he expects an increasingly challenging and competitive environment, going forward, but noted that the group has been agile in adapting to the changing telecommunications landscape.

PETALING JAYA: Maxis Bhd recorded growth across its consumer and enterprise business segments for its financial year ended Dec 31 (FY22), with the group stating its financial performance is reflecting its convergence strategy.

In comparison to 2021, the telecommunication company posted higher service revenue, with a stable earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, which contributed to a 6% year-on-year (y-o-y) rise in total revenue to RM9.79bil for FY22.

Net profit eased 10% y-o-y to RM1.18bil due to the impact of the prosperity tax last year.

Maxis declared an interim dividend of five sen per share for the final quarter ended Dec 31, bringing the full year dividend to 20 sen per share.

Chief executive Goh Seow Eng said he is expecting an increasingly challenging and competitive environment, going forward, but noted that the group has been agile in adapting to the changing telecommunications landscape.

“Our strengths in mobile, network, converged offerings and expanding fibre footprint put us in a firm position to forge ahead as Malaysia’s leading converged solutions provider,” he said.

Maxis recorded higher revenue in both mobile and home fibre connectivity in 2022. For home fibre, the group achieved a commendable double-digit growth of 16.9% in revenue to RM843mil.

Similar growth was also seen for the number of homes connected for 14 consecutive quarters, making it the second-largest fibre retailer in the market. Including its own fibre build, Maxis currently has access to serve seven million premises.

Last year, the group invested RM1.1bil in capital expenditure, focusing on upgrading and building new mobile sites for 4G expansion and increasing its fibre footprint to more homes and businesses.

This was on top of other continuous efforts to improve self-serve digital channels, which contributed to the highest Touchpoint Net Promoter Score of plus 68 points for the quarter in review.

Maxis said it is also looking forward to commercially launching 5G-related products and services soon.

Concurrently, the group is keeping up its effort to develop multi-industry 5G use cases with major players for commercial use through its growing 5G Alliance.
