Nazir appointed as chairman of Asean-Business Advisory Council

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has appointed Tan Sri Nazir Razak (pic) as Asean-Business Advisory Council’s (Asean-BAC) chairman, while Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Lim Chern Yuan have been appointed as its council members.

These appointments will be effective for the period from 2023 to 2026, said Asean-BAC Malaysia in a statement.

“Asean-BAC Malaysia will continue to be an integral partner in supporting Malaysia’s various Asean endeavours.

“We will also use the lead time before Malaysia’s Asean Chairmanship in 2025 to strengthen strategic relationships and conversations between the private sector, the government and the Asean organisation,” said Nazir in the same statement.

Nazir is the founding partner of Asean private equity fund Ikhlas Capital and former chairman of CIMB Bhd, while Fernandes is the group chief executive officer of Capital A Bhd and Lim is group chief executive officer of Yinson Holdings Bhd.

Asean-BAC has been mandated by the Asean member country’s leaders to provide private sector feedback and guidance to boost the regional bloc’s efforts towards economic integration.

The body said its council members are appointed by the ministries in charge and usually comprise high-level chief executive officers of companies from each member country.
