PETALING JAYA: Teleport, the logistics venture of Capital A (formerly AirAsia Group Bhd), is looking forward to engaging further with the Sarawak business community through its participation in the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos) trade and business roadshow.
In a statement yesterday, Teleport said it received enthusiastic response from potential exporters, manufacturers and service providers in the Sarawak northern city roadshow.
The roadshow kicked off in Miri yesterday and expects to meet more seminar participants in Bintulu and Kuching later in the week.
During the roadshow, Teleport Singapore country head, Natasia Jerah, shared insights into how the company could facilitate trade not only between Sarawak and Singapore, but also with the rest of Malaysia, the Asean region and beyond by leveraging on AirAsia’s passenger aircraft belly space for cargo.
“With more than 330 weekly AirAsia flights within, to and from Sarawak, Teleport is in the best position to provide unrivalled logistics solutions to farmers, manufacturers, agri and food producers who wish to market their goods beyond their home grounds,” Bernama reported.
Apart from Malaysia and Singapore, Teleport by AirAsia connects to the whole of Asean and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
This includes China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, as well as South Asia and the Middle East.
On Monday, Teleport said the resumption of AirAsia’s flights into China will mark the return of belly cargo space in China for the logistics group.
Teleport chief executive officer Pete Chareonwongsak said he was excited with China’s reopening.
“We can look forward to supporting growth in trade and cross-border eCommerce movement regionally.
“The full recovery of AirAsia’s fleet in China will realise Teleport’s extensive network advantage for the first time since the pandemic.”
Chareonwongsak said the goal is to “teleport it” across Asean faster and more affordably than anyone else.
“With a team of 700 in Malaysia, China, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, India and Singapore, we are equipped to become the preferred player for the fastest and most efficient air logistics solutions across Asean.”
Teleport said it is expecting the arrival of the first of its three A321 freighters in 2023 to strengthen its freighter capacity into its own fleet.
This is in addition to the added capacity from third-party airlines.
Teleport was established in 2018 by consolidating the belly capacity of all AirAsia airlines under a single comprehensive network.
Meanwhile, the Statos roadshow, which is co-hosted by the Sarawak Manufacturers Association, aims to further promote trade and investment between Sarawak and Singapore and open more opportunities for Sarawak exporters to market their products internationally.
The next roadshow will be held in Bintulu on March 8.
This will be followed by Kuching on March 10.
Participation is complimentary and open to all businesses and individuals.
