KUCHING: Shell’s Timi gas field located offshore Bintulu, Sarawak, is expected to come on stream later this year.
According to Shell Malaysia country chair Siti Hurrairah Sulaiman, first gas is expected to flow from the Timi gas field project, which is currently being developed, before end-2023.
Timi is developed as part of the SK318 production-sharing contract with Sarawak Shell Bhd (SSB) as the operator holding 75% equity.
The other two partners are PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (15%) and Brunei Energy Exploration (10%). The project also includes the drilling of two wells.
Timi, which a sweet gas field discovered in 2018, is designed to reach up to 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day peak production.
It will evacuate its gas to the existing Shell-operated F23 production hub via an 80km pipeline while supporting the future growth in the central Luconia area, off the coast of Sarawak.
The Timi development features SSB’s first wellhead platform in Malaysia that is powered by a solar and wind hybrid renewable power system.
Siti Hurrairah said Timi’s gas production would be ahead of the Rosmari-Marjoram sour gas project, which occupies the same deep-water field at Block SK318. The sour gas field was discovered in 2014.
The project comprises a remotely operated offshore platform and onshore gas plant, with infrastructure that includes one of the longest sour wet gas offshore pipelines in the world stretching about 200km.
She said piling works on the onshore plant project had commenced recently after land clearing work at the site was carried out.
The Rosmari-Marjoram development is one of the strategic projects to ensure a sustained gas supply to the PETRONAS liquefied natural gas (LNG) complex in Bintulu.
“Rosmari-Marjoram is one the largest Shell projects in Malaysia. It is an integrated development. Gas will be produced from our offshore fields in Sarawak and then fed into the plant in Bintulu.
“From the gas plant in Bintulu, it will go to the Malaysia LNG plant to produce LNG,” she said.
She was speaking to reporters at Shell Malaysia Hari Raya Adilfitri open house here. Sarawak Head of State Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg graced the festive celebration.
