PETALING JAYA: A total of 5,000 job opportunities will be generated when the Bandar Dato’ Bentara Special Area Plan (RKK) development project, an integrated economic activity centre in Gua Musang, is completed by 2035.
Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the RKK Bandar Dato’ Bentara is a phased joint-venture project between Perbadanan Menteri Besar Kelantan and Nextgreen Global Bhd, a pulp and paper manufacturer, involving the use of land covering an area of 1,618ha with a development period of 10 to 15 years.
He said RKK Bandar Dato’ Bentara would provide 4,000 affordable housing units and 4,340 medium-cost housing units.
Ahmad said the development had three main components, namely, Mahallah 1, Mahallah 2 and Mahallah 3, each having its own set of development composition.
“The first Mahallah is for agro-tourism, compound agricultural and herbal plantation areas and the second Mahallah is for housing and affordable home units, public facilities as well as local community centres.
“The third Mahallah is focused on the development of light industrial areas such as the oil palm biomass collection and processing centre and the development of a pulp mill with a capacity of 400,000 tonnes,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after attending the inauguration ceremony of RKK Bandar Dato’ Bentara and the Oil Palm Biomass Collection and Processing Centre at Panggung Lalat yesterday.
Also present was Nextgreen managing director Datuk Lim Thiam Huat.
Ahmad said the development project was a proactive step by the state government as an initiative to create strong food security.
He said Kelantan would also be capable of becoming a leader in the country’s green industry with the construction of the low-carbon city. — Bernama
