AirAsia is world’s best low-cost airline for 14th consecutive time

The airline said the recognition was a testament to its recovery and robust growth as reflected in the routes and passengers it carried.

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia has been voted the “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline” at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2023 (Skytrax) for the 14th consecutive time.

In a statement yesterday, the airline said the recognition was a testament to its recovery and robust growth as reflected in the routes and passengers it carried.

Capital A chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said winning the award for 14 consecutive years is considered a remarkable achievement.

“We would like to dedicate this award to our outstanding team of 22,000 Allstars, who tirelessly strive to provide the best service and experience to millions of our guests, both on the ground and in the air.

“Together, we have redefined low-cost aviation and set new benchmarks and we will continue to soar even higher by listening, adapting and innovating,” he said in accepting the award at a ceremony at the Paris Air Show 2023 in France yesterday.

Skytrax chief executive officer Edward Plaisted said AirAsia, a survey passenger favourite, had delivered consistently year-on-year since the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline category was introduced to the awards programme in 2010.

“The recognition from customers should be a great source of pride for the airline management and staff in what has been a difficult period as travel returns after the Covid pandemic,” he said.

AirAsia launched fares from RM14 all-in one way to domestic destinations including Langkawi, Kuala Terengganu, Penang, Johor Baru and more in celebration of winning the award.

Moreover, the airline also launched fares from RM64 all-in one-way to Singapore, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and from RM94 all-in one way to Bangkok, Bali, Krabi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as from RM294 all-in one way to Taipei, Seoul, Busan, Gold Coast, Osaka, Hangzhou and others.

In addition, passengers can enjoy a 14% discount on Xtra Carry-On to upsize their cabin baggage to 14kg.

The promotions are available now until June 25, 2023 for the travel period between Sept 1, 2023 and Oct 8, 2024 on the airasia Superapp or website.

Capital A recorded a 212% year-on-year increase in revenue to RM2.53bil in its first quarter ended March 31.

This was due to strong demand from domestic and international travel following the relaxation of travel and entry requirements.

The group reported a net profit of RM57mil, compared with a net loss of RM903.79mil a year earlier.
