KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI finished slightly lower today on profit-taking activities, bucking gains seen on Asian markets.
At closing, the benchmark index fell 0.71 of a point to 1,462.72 after moving between 1,460.84 and 1,465.93 during the session.
Market breadth turned negative as losers overpowered the gainers on a ratio of 526-to-498 stocks. Traded volumes stood at four billion units worth RM2.37bil.
Among the heavyweights, Press Metal rose eight sen to RM5, Public Bank gained four sen to RM4.28 and IHH Healthcare added four sen to RM5.92.
PETRONAS Dagangan eased 40 sen to RM22.778, Nestle fell 30 sen to RM129.90 and Hong Leong Bank declined 10 sen to RM19.90.
On the broader market, Hextar Technologies slid 60 sen to RM25.20, Ajinomoto fell 20 sen to RM15.88 and Batu Kawan eased 18 sen to RM20.10.
Among the gainers, Heineken added 34 sen to RM23.80, Dutch Lady rose 30 sen to RM22.30 and Aeon Credit gained 28 sen to RM11.58.
Malaysian Resources Corp, the most active counter on Bursa Malaysia, added one sen to 48.5 sen with 96.91 million shares traded.
Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed up 0.7%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 2.51%, South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.81% and China’s Shanghai Composite Index closed up 1.4%.
