World Green & Sustainability Summit 2023 recognises the company’s commitment to ESG

KUCHING: The region’s leading asset management and infrastructure solutions company, UEM Edgenta Berhad (UEM Edgenta), received two awards at the World Green & Sustainability Summit (WGSS) 2023 on Sept 4.

It won the “Outstanding World ESG Impact Award”, while managing director and chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin received the "World Sustainability Icon Leadership Lifetime Achievement Award” for his leadership and forward-thinking approach in harmonising technology and sustainability.

The event was graced by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and aims to address pressing global issues, including climate change, sustainable investments and green financing, while championing the principles of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) to promote a greener economy and a better world for all.

UEM Edgenta's remarkable contributions to the realms of sustainability while actively championing the principles of ESG have garnered it the distinct honour of receiving two the prestigious awards and are indeed testament to its unwavering commitment to promoting and fostering a sustainable future.

Syahrunizam said, "Receiving the ‘Outstanding World ESG Impact Award’ is a solid recognition of our relentless dedication to environmental sustainability and our tireless efforts to drive positive impact in the communities we serve.

Under Syahrunizam’s stewardship, the company transformed within the facilities management sector, harnessing cutting-edge technologies to drive eco-friendly and resource-efficient practices.

His leadership propelled the adoption of groundbreaking solutions leading to the advent of the adoption of sustainability driven ideas for smart cities and expanded the company’s footprint and ESG philosophies into the global market.

WGSS was organised by the World Green Organisation (WGO), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), as well as the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI) and co-hosted by the Sarawak government.

It brings government officials, industry leaders, academic experts and society representatives together with the shared goal of fostering public-private-people partnerships for sustainable and inclusive green growth.

This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 16, which is “Partnership for the Goals.”

As the world looks forward to the COP28 in UAE this coming November, WGSS 2023 serves as a crucial gathering of regional and international leaders, setting the stage for meaningful dialogues and collaborations to address the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.

To this effect, UEM Edgenta remains steadfast in its commitment to driving positive change, fostering partnerships and working towards a greener and more sustainable future for all.

During the Star Media Group ESG Positive Impact Awards 2022 held on June 8, the company was lauded across four categories, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Talent Management and Good Health & Well Being.
