Bursa Malaysia loses ground for third straight session


KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI ended in the red on Thursday, booking declines for the third straight session.

At 5 pm, the benchmark index closed down 5.33 points, or 0.37% at 1,452.27.

There were 439 gainers, 470 losers and 440 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia. Turnover stood at 3.23 billion shares valued at RM1.94bil.

Dealers said investor mood turned cautious ahead of US jobless claims data and a speech by the Federal Reserve chair later.

Among the gainers, Aeon Credit jumped 36 sen to RM11.90, Malayan Cement rose 22 sen to RM4.02, Apollo Food gained 16 sen to RM5.25 and Hwa Tai added 14 sen to 62 sen.

Nestle tumbled RM2.80 to RM122, Rapid fell 38 sen to RM26.70, United Plantations gave up 34 sen to RM16.58 and PPB lost 20 sen to RM14.50.

Regional indices were largely up today. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 1.49% to 32,646.46 while South Korea’s Kospi finished 0.23% higher at 2,427.08.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slid 0.33% to 17,511.29 and China’s Composite Index rose 0.03% to 3,053.28.
