Bursa steps back as investors digest recent gains


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia paused for a breather on Thursday as investors digested strong gains from earlier in the week, despite expectations that interest in equities will continue amid signs global inflation was slowing.

At 12.30pm, the benchmark FBM KLCI was down five points to 1,461.84.

There were 498 decliners to 328 gainers as the broader market pulled back after the rally in the previous session.

Trading volume was 2.18 billion shares valued at RM948.04mil.

Leading laggards included PETRONAS Chemicals down eight sen to RM7.27, CelcomDigi falling five sen to RM4.28 and Press Metal shedding four sen to RM4.87.

Meanwhile, MPI dropped 30 sen to RM26.88 following its earnings result from the previous day.

Some notable gainers from recent positive results included Amway up 20 sen to Rm5.45 and Kossan gaining 10 sen to RM1.58.

Of actives, Hong Seng was flat at four sen, Kanger dropped one sen to 5.5 sen and Top Glove rose three sen to 78 sen.

In regional markets, Nikkei shed 0.6% to 33,332 and South Korea's Kospi fell 0.1% to 2,483.

China's composite index was down 0.6% to 3,053 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng slumped 1.65% to 17,781.
