KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI closed flat on Friday against a backdrop of weak regional markets.
At 5pm, the 30-stock index was nearly flat to close at 1,453.92 points, up 0.63 of a point. The market traded within a range of 4.97 points between an intra-day high of 1,456.05 and 1,451.08.
The FBM KLCI finished down 0.46% for the week.
There were 392 gainers, 528 losers and 473 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia. Turnover stood at 3.5 billion shares valued at RM2.35bil.
Genting led gainers on the index, after rising 17 sen to RM4.53. Other top gainers among the component stocks included PETRONAS Chemicals, which rose 14 sen to RM7.30 and Genting Malaysia, which added seven sen to RM2.65.
PETRONAS Dagangan slipped 30 sen to RM22.56, Hong Leong Financial Group eased 12 sen to RM16.48, Kuala Lumpur Kepong fell 10 sen to RM121.50 and Nestle slid 10 sen to RM121.50.
On the broader market, Rapid jumped 60 sen to RM28, Allianz rose 40 sen to RM18.28, F&N fell 18 sen to RM27.10 and United Plantations slid 12 sen to RM16.78.
MSCI's Asia ex-Japan stock index was lower by 0.81%.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.52% to 33,625.53 while South Korea’s Kospi closed down 0.73%, at 2,496.63.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was down 1.96%, at 17,559.42 and China’s CSI300 index was down 0.66% to 3,538.01.
